Catherine Bell was born in London, England, but she grew up with her mother in Los Angeles, California. Her mother is an Iranian and Catherine speaks fluent Farsi, the Persian language. Catherine describes her self as a "geek," since she thrived in math and biology in school and that is not all. Catherine Bell even programmed a computer video game in junior high. She entered UCLA with the intention of being a pre-med major, but ended up modeling in Japan. After four months she found the lifestyle damaging to her self-esteem and well being and therefor returned to Los Angeles with a new goal in mind. Namly to become an actress. Catherine Bell found herself cast in guest spots on Hercules, Dream On, and Friends. But it was a three-line part on the military drama J.A.G. that changed it all.
After several months, Catherine Bell heard that executive producer Donald P. Bellisario of J.A.G. were looking for a new female lead for the show. Catherine got the part as Major. Sarah "Mac" MacKenzie in J.A.G (184 episodes, 1996-2005). Together with male lead David James Elliot, who plays Lt. Comander. Harmon "Harm" Rabb, they ensured that the show, would thrive on a new network. Catherine Bell's role on J.A.G. allowed her to showcase her athletic skills, as she has been kickboxing for over 10 years, and knows her way around a shooting range. When she isn't on camera she throws herself into snowboarding, riding motorcycles, wakeboarding, and other extreme sports. Has a heart tattoo on her ankle.
Catherin Bell married actor Adam Beason on 8 May 1994. On April 16, 2003, their first child was born, a girl named Gemma.
