Elle MacPherson parents got divorced when she was 14, and her mother later married Neil MacPherson. At 18, her plan was to study pre-law at Sydney University, but she was discovered in Aspen, Colorado, and was promptly signed to the Click modeling agency. Elle MacPherson started her professional modeling career in 1981. She posed for Elle magazine for 6 years. And in 1989 Elle established her own company, Elle Macpherson Intimates in Australia. At 21, Elle married Gilles Bensimon, a french photographer and creative manager of the magazine Elle. The later divorced. Elles nickname is The Body. Her Fitness video Your Personal Best Workout/The Body became Billboard Magazine's no. 1 special interest video in 1995. She showed off her body on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition in 1994, with models Kathy Ireland and Rachel Hunter.
But Elle also made a name for herself as an actress. In 1993, she made her film debut in Sirens starring opposite Hugh Grant and Sam Neil. Elle was required to gain 20 pounds for that role. Between all these projects, Elle MacPherson joined supermodels Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell in developing the restaurant, The Fashion Caf?/i> Elle MacPherson appeared in the sitcom Friends, in the role of Joey's new room mate. She has dated actor Sean Penn, but she is now together with Arpade "Arki" Busson, a Swiss financier.
