Halle Berry and her sister Heidi, spent the first few years of their childhood living in an inner-city neighborhood. Her abusive father, Jerome Berry, abandoned and left his family when Halle was only 4 years old. Because the neighborhood was predominantly white, Halle and her sister were treated cruelly because of their dark skin. While in high school Halle Berry was a cheerleader, editor of the school newspaper, member of the honor society and not surprisingly and a prom queen. Halle also won Miss Ohio (1983), Miss Teen All-American, and in 1986, she was first runner-up in the Miss USA pageant. She was the first African American to represent USA in the Miss World competition in London. In Cleveland Halle Berry studied broadcast journalism at the Cuyahoga Community College. But Halle didn't complete her degree. She left the program to pursue a more glamorous career in modeling, and for few years she modeled in Chicago, where she also started studying acting. All this led to her first weekly TV series Living Dolls (1989). Halle Berry got her first big break in 1991, when Spike Lee cast her as a crack-addicted woman in Jungle Fever (co-starring: Samuel L. Jackson). In 1992, she was cast as Eddie Murphy's love interest in Boomerang. A few years later dhe performed as the sexy secretary Sharon Stone in The Flintstones (1994). In a short romance, Halle Berry was involved in a stormy relationship with Jungle Fever co-star Wesley Snipes. And in 1993, she married Atlanta Braves outfielder David Justice. But three years later, Halle filed for a divorce, which was finalized in 1997. Halle Berry starrred in Swordfish (2001), Die Another Day (2002) and Gothika (2003).
