Tyra Banks was born in Los Angeles, California. Her parents divorced when she was only 6 years old. Her brother and her classmates used to tease her because she was skinny and tall. In the beginnig of her career, Tyra got turned down by four modeling agencies, because they thought her face wasn't photogenic. Then, when she was 17, she finally signed by the Elite agency. She moved to Paris for a year, to model for famous names in fashion, including Ralph Lauren and Chanel.
Back in the US, Tyra got a small part in the British television movie, Inferno, and she also appeared on sit-com Fresh Prince of Bel-Air starring Will Smith. But Tyra's first real movie role was in Higher Learning. The critics were impressed by the intensity she brought to the screen. Tyra Banks was the first black woman ever to be featured on the covers of GQ magazine, the Victoria's Secret catalog, and the famous Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. She has even written a book about her life, titled: Tyra's Beauty Inside and Out. Tyra Banks has also made the People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful" list twice! She had a small part in the movie Love Stinks and as a wild bartender in Coyote Ugly. Tyra has also been the host in the TV show America's Next Top Model and she has her own talk show named The Tyra Banks Show. |
